Theme of the Week:
The Gingerbread Man

We will read and compare the many versions of the classic tale “The Gingerbread Man” this week. By reading the different versions the children will have the opportunity to compare the characters and ending of each story. We will also make Gingerbread playdough and decorate gingerbread cookies for snack time. You will find an outline of a gingerbread person in your child’s backpack – please help your child decorate the drawing to show to our class! Ideas for decorations include crayons, markers, buttons, felt, ribbon, beads, glitter or dried beans. Let your child decide how to decorate the gingerbread person! Please return them by Monday December 15th, 2008.

With the chill in the air come brisk days and frosty nights! Make sure to bundle your children up in appropriate outdoor clothing for playing outside. Sweaters, hats, coats, mittens and closed-toe shoes will prevent children from getting chilly or catching colds when outdoors!

Please send nutritious snacks with your child each day. Apples, bananas, carrots, pretzels and juice are healthy examples of foods that will fuel your child for a great day at school! Avoid sending foods that contain nuts as many young children have a serious allergy to tree nut products. Let’s work together to keep our children safe!

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher conferences will be held in October, February, and May. Forms will be sent home in your child’s backpack prior to the conference days for scheduling your conference. While these conferences are an ideal time to discuss your child’s progress and any issues or concerns you may have, please feel free to contact me at any time at ariana.thumann@verizon.net.

You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.
